FEATURED SPEAKER. CUE is sponsoring featured speaker Garold Murray, and he will hold a workshop titled ‘Identity and Motivation: Imagining a Difference’. Garold is the author of numerous publications, the most recent being the co-edited volume Identity, motivation, and autonomy in language learning published by Multilingual Matters. He frequently gives workshops and lectures internationally and has presented professionally on five continents. He is an informative and entertaining speaker, so plan on attending his workshop in October!

CUE & TED FORUM. After last year’s enormous success with our joint CUE and Teacher Education and Development (TED) forum using a digital kamishibai style, we’re doing it again. This year’s forum title is ‘What makes the difference: Stories from the field’ and we’re looking for CUE members to share stories in the forum of what has made a difference in their lives as teachers or the lives of their students. The format is similar to pecha kucha but with a few variations. Participants will prepare 10 slides, and talk for about 30 seconds per slide, for a five-minute presentation; this presentation will be repeated several times for different audience groups. If this sounds interesting to you, please click here to apply to participate in the forum, or for more information, contact Peter Hourdequin.

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH WORKSHOP.

This hands-on, one-day workshop titled Qualitative Research: Getting Started will be held on December 1 at Chukyo University in Nagoya. It will feature Naoki Aoki and Robert Croker and aims to help participants decide a research topic and make a basic plan for a qualitative research study. It will cost 2000 yen for the day and preregistered participants receive FREE LUNCH. To register, please complete the form found here.
