CUE AGM 2008

What was discussed at the CUE AGM in Tokyo (November 2008)

Directly after the CUE 2008 Forum, the CUE Annual General Meeting took place with 15 officers and CUE members in attendance. Topics discussed included:

  • The need for Assistant Chair officers
  • The desperate need for a new Program Chair (still open!)
  • The 2008 CUE Scholar, Thomas Amundrud
  • The CUE Researcher Award (new for 2009)
  • PanSIG 2009 (which CUE is supporting)
  • CUE 2009 Conference, at Tezukayama University in Nara
  • Using YouTube and Facebook to promote CUE events

As a result of the topics discussed at the CUE AGM, Daniel Beck has graciously volunteered to set up both a JALT CUE Group on Facebook and a JALT CUE SIG account at Twitter.

Several photos and videos from the CUE Forum at JALT 2008 have already been uploaded to the CUE group on Facebook.

If you are a CUE SIG member and have a Facebook account, please search for us, join the CUE Faceboo group, and feel free to upload your photos, stories, and ideas!

Another plea for officer help

Since JALT and the CUE SIG are now officially an NGO in Japan, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government requires that CUE SIG fill five officers positions or disband as a non-governmental organization.

These positions are:

  • SIG Coordinator
  • Treasurer
  • Programs Chair
  • Membership Chair
  • Publications Chair.

However, CUE believes that Co-Chairs (i.e., two CUE members working side-by-side in an equal capacity) makes operating CUE SIG much more efficient and effective, and also provides CUE SIG with a much stronger base for the future.

CUE needs energetic members to step up and help out the CUE officers to expand our roster and inject new energy and fresh ideas so that CUE SIG can continue to serve as a conduit for information and research among university educators in Japan.

CUE desperately needs a CUE member to step up and help us with Programs. The current SIG Coordinator, Matthew Apple, is also serving double-time as Acting Program Chair. He would be very willing to serve as Co-Chair if a CUE member is interested in assisting organizing CUE events such as the CUE Forum and the CUE Conference. Interested members can contact Matt at the email address below.
